Ruth Amos: Inventor's Workshop and Signing

To celebrate the launch of Ruth’s new book, join Ruth in the bookshop for a book reading, signing and invention workshop - perfect for budding inventors and creators aged 5-10. Booking essential.

Step inside the inventor ’s workshop to see how one creative spark leads to another... until an invention is born. Find out how, when and why these ingenious breakthroughs happened, and learn about all the people who created them.

Discover how Ada Lovelace’s code inspired Charles Babbage’s work on the first modern computer; see how African American Lewis Latimer’s technology made Thomas Edison’s light bulb possible; and much more.

Ruth Amos is an award winning inventor, entrepreneur and edutuber. A true pioneer for engaging children in STEAM subjects, Ruth's YouTube channel 'Kids Invent Stuff' (as seen on The One Show, BBC News Online and Tomorrow's World Live) sees primary aged children have the chance to get their invention ideas built by real engineers.

Helen Rutter: Reggie Houser Has the Power

SOLD OUT

Meet award-winning and bestselling author Helen Rutter and get to know the hero of her latest story, REGGIE HOUSER HAS THE POWER, on publication day.

In this new book Reggie, who has ADHD, struggles to make friends and is nervous about starting secondary school. But when he sees a hypnotist perform on stage at the holiday park he visits, Reggie becomes obsessed with learning the skills of mind control - and he discovers he has an incredible talent for it! First of all he hypnotises the dog to think he's a frog, then makes his headmaster cluck like a chicken in assembly in front of the whole school - but then a group of mean kids supposedly take him under their wing and make him use his hypnosis talents for bad: stealing a chocolate bar from a shop and escalating to a bigger theft. Reggie must decide to use his skills for good only and come to trust his own brain to make decisions.

In this event you’ll get to learn where Helen Rutter gets her ideas from and learn some hypnosis tricks!
